Каллас заявила о готовности ЕС возглавить поддержку Украины в случае отказа США.

The European Union is prepared to take a leading role if the United States withdraws its support for Ukraine. This stance was expressed by the head of EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas. She made this bold statement ahead of the contact group meeting on Ukraine in Ramstein.

At the same time, as reported by Tagesschau, Kallas expressed hope that other EU member states, as well as the U.S. will maintain their support for Ukraine. The diplomat also urged to avoid speculation regarding Washington's future actions.

"The EU is ready to take the initiative if the U.S. decides to stop," she emphasized.

Kallas noted that regardless of who becomes the leader of the U.S., the country is not interested in strengthening Russia as a global power. It is worth mentioning that the topic of future support for Ukraine has gained particular relevance following Donald Trump's return to the White House. His ideas about a "quick peace" raise concerns in Kyiv due to potential negative consequences for the country.

What is known about Trump's plans regarding the war in Ukraine

Trump has repeatedly stated that he is capable of ending the Russian-Ukrainian war within a day after returning to the presidential office. In October, during a speech in Pennsylvania, he emphasized that he has "good relations" with President Zelensky.

"I will end this war before I am officially elected president," he stated.

In a debate with Kamala Harris, Trump declared that he aims to end the war since "millions of people are dying." He also criticized Joe Biden for lacking dialogue with Putin and stressed that the current U.S. president does not know how to effectively negotiate with allies in Europe.

However, Trump has not disclosed details of his plan to end the war, which raises concerns among politicians. Experts believe that his election could lead to a reduction in American support for Ukraine or pressure on Kyiv to reach a compromise with Russia.

At the same time, Trump plans to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine even after his inauguration. He will also demand that NATO countries increase defense spending.
