Against the backdrop of an official accusation from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev directed at the Russian Federation regarding the crash of an Azerbaijani plane in Kazakhstan, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Baku on December 29. This was his second call to Aliyev in two days. Aliyev and Putin once again discussed the plane disaster.

This time, there were no detailed reports about the conversation's content from either side. Both Aliyev and Putin only provided brief general statements without revealing any specifics.

"During the phone conversation, the heads of state continued to discuss issues related to the crash of the passenger aircraft of the State Air Company 'Azerbaijani Airlines'," the Azerbaijani presidential office stated.

The Kremlin did not publish any statements at all. A brief comment was given by Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov to propagandists from "RIA Novosti".

"Putin and Aliyev had a phone conversation on Sunday, during which they continued to discuss issues related to the crash of the 'Azerbaijani Airlines' plane," he said in response to the propagandists' questions.

Plane Crash in Aktau

The aircraft of the Azerbaijani airline was en route from Baku to Grozny. It was redirected to Makhachkala and then to Aktau, where the tragedy ultimately occurred. After the crash, 28 passengers survived and were taken to the hospital. According to the lists, there were a total of 16 Russian citizens on board, nine of whom survived. Both pilots of the aircraft perished.

The pilot attempted to land twice. Other airports were suggested for landing, but the commander of the aircraft decided to land in Aktau. When the plane began to gain altitude, it reportedly collided with birds according to preliminary reports. Data from Flight Radar indicated that prior to the crash, the aircraft was not flying smoothly, constantly losing and gaining altitude, with speed fluctuations as well.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin called Aliyev and expressed his condolences regarding the tragic incident that occurred in Russian airspace, also conveying deep sympathy to the families of the deceased. However, Putin did not mention the missile strike in any way.
