This amount, equivalent to 20.1 billion hryvnias, was intended for protective structures in particularly dangerous areas, such as the sections between Velyka Novosilka and Kurakhove, as well as Kurakhove and Pokrovsk. However, instead of a strong defensive line, the military discovered gaps and shortcomings.

Where's the money, Lebowski?

As writes Ekonomichna Pravda, citing Financial Times, the engineering units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are operating at their limits. Many of them are involved not only in defensive tasks but also in assault operations. According to commanders, this significantly reduces operational efficiency.

"If military engineers were able to focus on their primary work – digging trenches and consolidating the defensive line – the situation would be entirely different. Right now, the system is either not working or is only partially functioning," said the commander of the assault battalion, Stanislav Bunyatov.

Who built it?

The company "Avtomagistral-Yug" raises questions, having been previously involved in scandalous stories. For instance, before the war, it was accused of illegally using sand quarries and constructing roads through private lands without the owners' consent.

In 2022, the company was implicated in a criminal case for constructing a modular town on land that did not belong to it.

"There is no one responsible for quality, planning, or for how these positions will be transferred and who will control them," stated Dmitry Razumkov, a member of the temporary commission of the Verkhovna Rada.

Meanwhile, in the Donetsk region, the second line of defense is still being constructed, while the third is in the design phase. Such gaps pose risks for neighboring regions, particularly Dnipropetrovsk, where occupiers are already positioned at the approaches.

A criminal case has been initiated against the company for unauthorized construction activities. While the police are still determining who is responsible, it is known that the contractor was trusted with key projects, including the dismantling of destroyed bridges and road clearing.

At the same time, the historical founder of the company, Odessa businessman Alexander Boyko, has been linked multiple times to high-profile figures, such as the former father-in-law of Roman Abramovich, Alexander Zhukov. Representatives of "Avtomagistral-Yug" deny such connections, but suspicions remain.

No less interesting is another key figure in this story Yuri Golik, consultant for "Great Construction." According to journalists, he may have met Boyko back in 2015 when he was an advisor to the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration, Valentyn Reznichenko. In Dnipropetrovsk circles, they refer to them as "appointees" of the notorious developer brothers Dubynskyi, who have a rich history of construction scandals.

What is the status of fortifications now?

On problematic sections of the front, the company has indeed started work, but, as stated by the press service, it has not received any funds for this neither an advance nor payment. The question remains: who was responsible for fortifications before them, and how much was allocated for this?

"Avtomagistral-Yug" claims to work on its own resources and does not have information about previous contractors.

Every gap in the defensive line is not just a mistake but a direct threat to those defending the country at the front.
