The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, held a meeting with the Federal Chancellor of Austria, Karl Nehammer, in Paris. Together, the leaders discussed key issues regarding support for Ukraine. In particular, the conversation focused on energy restoration and financial support for Ukraine.
The head of state expressed gratitude to Austria for the humanitarian and financial assistance that has been provided since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion. Zelensky emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in 2024, especially in areas such as humanitarian demining, treatment and rehabilitation of the affected, as well as the involvement of Austrian companies in the restoration of Ukrainian infrastructure.
The president paid special attention to the needs of Ukraine's energy system during the winter period. He stressed the significance of creating shelters in schools and hospitals to protect people from Russian attacks.
Karl Nehammer confirmed Austria's readiness to continue supporting Ukraine and to promote the strengthening of sanctions against the Russian Federation. One of the main topics of discussion was Europe's energy independence from Russian resources.
The parties also discussed measures to achieve a lasting and just peace, emphasizing the necessity of compelling Russia to take appropriate actions. Zelensky invited Austria to join the Joint G7 Declaration on Support for Ukraine and to consider the possibility of signing a bilateral agreement for long-term cooperation.
The President of Ukraine also raised the issue of the return of children unlawfully deported to the Russian Federation. He also spoke about the obstacles created by the Russian side in this process.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in the capital of France - Paris. His visit is associated with the solemn ceremony of the reopening of the restored Notre-Dame Cathedral. Diplomatic meetings are expected to take place between the president and world leaders, including a potential dialogue with newly elected US President Donald Trump. Nearly 40 world leaders have arrived in Paris in total.
Prior to this, the Ukrainian delegation, led by the head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak, was on an official visit to the United States. During the trip, Yermak visited Washington, New York, and Florida. In the US, he met with representatives of Donald Trump's team, where plans regarding Russia and ways to neutralize the enemy were discussed.
It is noted that the Ukrainian side was satisfied with the meeting with Trump's team. The publication Politico reported that the negotiations were deemed productive in Kyiv.
