How did it all start? "Vідкритий ліс" provides the details.

In Volyn, in the village of Tsuman, police stopped a truck loaded with expensive commercial oak. The problem is that the trees lacked tags and documents. Experts claim that the age of these oaks is between 100 and 130 years, and there are only a few hectares of such trees left in Transcarpathia.

According to investigators, the truck started from the territory of the Berehove forestry, which is managed by Yaroslav Oleynik. Surveillance cameras captured it on Transcarpathian roads, including at the checkpoint. However, as if by magic, no one confiscated the cargo of valuable timber.

The destination for the oak, according to journalists, was a facility in Volyn, where the wood was to be processed and sent for export. Behind this was the director of LLC "Yarko-ko," Yaroslav Romanishin – he is allegedly not new to participating in such schemes.

What is the cost of illegal timber?

The seized batch alone is valued at 1-1.2 million hryvnias. According to investigators, such shipments of oak have already been exported for tens of millions. And Oleynik, with an official salary of 100,000 hryvnias, is allegedly "moonlighting" in illegal trade, earning significantly more.

A career with criminal cases in tow

Interestingly, this is far from the first dark mark in Yaroslav Oleynik's career. Criminal cases have previously been initiated against him for misappropriating budget funds for vehicle purchases and for illegal extraction of natural resources. Despite these cases, the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" not only did not dismiss him but also extended his contract at the Berehove branch.

What’s next?

According to journalists, Oleynik has no intention of stopping. He allegedly plans to spend his earnings on a career leap and purchasing a high-ranking position.
