Serious issues have emerged in one of the orphanages in the Transcarpathian region, which is, to put it mildly, shocking. A monitoring group from the Ombudsman’s Office discovered that staff members were using children as free labor to pick apples in a private orchard.

In a document between the orphanage director and one of the companies, there is something resembling "mutual assistance," but in reality, it appears to be blatant exploitation.

This was reported on Telegram by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada, Dmytro Lubinets.

There was also violence involved. As the Ombudsman representatives found out, the orphanage director physically assaulted one of the children, with his deputy and another child witnessing the incident. Human rights seem to have been left at the door.

Moreover, children were asked to provide money for purchasing furniture. All their bank cards and documents were kept in a safe by the deputy director, and to access their own funds, the children had to write "applications."

According to these applications, the director purchased cabinets for more than 50 thousand UAH using 5100 UAH, which apparently no one in the institution has seen.

Prosecutor's representatives have begun to investigate the situation. National Police officers have already conducted inspections and questioned the director. We hope this nightmare will finally come to an end, and the children will receive the care and protection they deserve.
