The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, has pledged to support Russia in its war against Ukraine. On November 29, a meeting took place between Kim and Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov. Following the meeting, the parties reached a consensus on strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
This was reported by the Associated Press, citing the Korean Central News Agency. During the negotiations, Kim stated that North Korea "will consistently support" Russia's policy regarding the protection of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He also added that both nations share common interests in combating "imperialist ambitions" and NATO's "reckless" eastward expansion. North Korea has backed Russia's invasion of Ukraine, describing it as a defensive response.
North Korea is significantly expanding one of its primary weapons manufacturing plants, where short-range missiles are produced and supplied to Russia. The construction of a new production complex is progressing at an accelerated pace, indicating a growing demand for these munitions from the Kremlin.
Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky disclosed data regarding the volume of North Korean supplies to Russia. According to him, since the beginning of the war, Russia has received at least 3.5 million artillery shells of 155 mm caliber from North Korea, highlighting the active military cooperation between the two nations.
Furthermore, there are reports that North Korea has likely transferred heavy artillery to Russia. An unusual 170 mm M1989 Koksan howitzer, known for its long range due to its unique caliber and extended barrel, was spotted during transport by rail in the region.
At the same time, according to American analysts, North Korea will lose many soldiers in the war on Russia's side. Additionally, it has been reported how many North Korean soldiers are in the Kursk region.
