Brian Lanza, the senior advisor to President-elect Donald Trump of the United States, stated that the new administration intends to focus on achieving peace in Ukraine, rather than supporting the return of its occupied territories. According to him, Trump will urge Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to adopt a "realistic vision of peace." If Zelensky insists on the return of Crimea, he will be "demonstrating his unseriousness," Lanza emphasized.
As reported by the BBC, the chief strategist of the Republicans added that the return of Crimea, which Russia annexed back in 2014, is not considered a priority for the U.S. Meanwhile, Trump, who continually calls for an end to the war, also supports reducing American military aid to Ukraine.
"And if President Zelensky sits down at the negotiating table and says that peace is only possible on the condition of returning Crimea, he will show that he is not serious. We have news for President Zelensky: Crimea is gone," he said on the BBC World Service Weekend program.
Lanza, a long-time Trump strategist, emphasized that the United States will focus on peace and ending bloodshed, rather than territorial issues. He stated that Ukraine needs to present a "vision of peace," not of victory. Furthermore, Trump has already discussed this topic with Zelensky, and the conversation reportedly took place in a warm atmosphere, according to Ukrainian sources.
At the same time, Trump faces criticism from opponents who claim that his approach could signify Ukraine's capitulation to Russia. It has been noted that Trump had previously stated his ability to end the war "in just one day," although details of this plan have not yet been provided. During his campaign, he promised to resolve the conflict, but support for Ukraine was to be considered alongside demands for peace negotiations with Russia.
American billionaire Elon Musk, who participated in a recent conversation between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, expressed his views on the potential for a swift end to the war in Ukraine. Musk commented on a report from Newsweek stating that the team of the newly elected U.S. president is considering a plan to establish a demilitarized zone along the frontline between Ukraine and Russia. According to this plan, British and European peacekeeping troops could be deployed there.
It should be noted that the Office of the President also reviewed the article from The Wall Street Journal regarding Trump's plan to end the war and responded that the material is by no means a reflection of Republican Donald Trump's position on the war in Ukraine. According to Ukrainian President's advisor Dmytro Lytvyn, this publication is not an announcement of Trump's actions but rather resembles yet another leak, which have increased recently.
Additionally, Forbes released a report suggesting that in Ukraine, if a peace agreement with Russia is reached, a coup could occur. This would allegedly be orchestrated by Ukrainian military personnel if President Volodymyr Zelensky concedes Donbas and Crimea. An informant sought comments from several experts to determine whether the scenario published by Forbes is at all close to the reality in Ukraine. For insights shared by analysts, read our article.
