At the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Macron stated that U.S. President Joe Biden made the "right decision" by allowing Ukraine to use American weapons to strike targets in Russia. According to Macron, Biden's new move was made in response to Russia's escalation of the conflict with Ukraine involving soldiers from North Korea.
"Russia is the only state that has made an escalatory decision... this rupture led to the U.S. decision," Macron said, as quoted by Politico.
The leaders of the G20 countries concluded their summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 19. They published a final declaration outlining key global priorities for the coming years. In the leaders' statement from the "Group of Twenty," there is only one mention of the war in Ukraine. Representatives from Kyiv were not invited to the event.
"Specifically regarding the war in Ukraine, recalling our discussions in New Delhi, we emphasize the human suffering and negative spillover effects of the war on global food and energy security, supply chains, macro-financial stability, inflation, and growth. We welcome all relevant and constructive initiatives that support a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace, upholding all goals and principles of the UN Charter to promote peaceful, friendly, and good-neighborly relations among peoples," the declaration states.
