The American magazine Time has selected its "Person of the Year." This year, the publication has named the newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump as the winner, as expected. This marks the second time he has received this title.
Time magazine announced this on December 12. The publication referred to him as the "most powerful person in the world."
"The most powerful person in the world entered with calm goodwill. In his signature dark blue suit and red tie, the 78-year-old man looked a bit older than he did seven months ago when he last met with TIME. His manner of communication remained as discursive, but less loud, more restrained, and less verbose," the magazine writes about Trump.
The publication describes Trump's political career and narrates his life journey. It also adds that the U.S. will soon see how Trump can change America.
"If America craved change, it will soon see how much Trump can accomplish," the article states.
Donald Trump's political resurgence is unparalleled in U.S. history, the article adds. His first presidential term ended in scandal, and attempts to contest the results of the 2020 election led to an attack on the Capitol. Following this, most Republican leaders distanced themselves from him, especially when he announced a new campaign at the end of 2022. However, in less than a year, Trump completely dominated the Republican field, achieving one of the most significant victories in presidential primaries, writes Time.
Contenders for the title of "Person of the Year" included: Trump's opponent in the presidential election, Kamala Harris, Elon Musk, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and the widow of Alexei Navalny, Yulia Navalnaya.
Donald Trump previously received this title in 2016 after winning the presidential election, calling the recognition “a great honor.” At that time, he stated, "This means a lot, especially to me, as I grew up reading Time. It's a very important magazine."
Among U.S. presidents, starting from Franklin Roosevelt, nearly everyone, except for three (Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, and Gerald Ford), has received this title at least once. Roosevelt was named "Person of the Year" three times. The list of titled "Persons of the Year" also includes Adolf Hitler in 1938, Joseph Stalin in 1939 and 1942, and Vladimir Putin in 2007.
The magazine's editorial board believes that the title “Person of the Year” is not an award. It recognizes individuals who have had a significant impact—both positive and negative—on the course of human history.
Donald Trump Jr. shared a provocative video in which the Republican pushes Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky off the cover of Time magazine. He posted this video on his Instagram page. It is worth noting that Time chose the President of Ukraine as "Person of the Year" in 2022.

Meanwhile, Western media believe that Trump may cancel $20 billion in aid to Ukraine. It was also reported that he did not discuss with Zelensky the terms of a possible end to the war.
