The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, stated that the ongoing full-scale war by Russia against Ukraine is leading to an increase in human rights violations. In his view, this serves as yet another argument to initiate peace negotiations with Russia. He clarified that the Peace Summit in Switzerland was somewhat of a referendum among Western countries regarding their readiness to support the force of democracy.
Therefore, he emphasized that it is essential to move towards peace right now. This was stated by the Czech leader in Prague at the 28th international conference “Forum-2000,” which is specifically dedicated to the war in Ukraine, as reported by Radio Free Europe.
“The continuation of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine leads to further increases in human rights violations, as it serves as an inspiration for those who do not respect others,” emphasized Pavel.
He reminded that even while the conference is ongoing, Russia continues to shell Ukraine, particularly targeting civilian infrastructure such as energy and heating facilities. For this reason, the Czech leader called on major world powers—especially China—to use their influence to promote peace.
At the end of October, thematic conferences will conclude, laying the groundwork for the second peace summit. However, it will not be held in November. This was announced by the advisor to the Head of the President's Office, Daria Zarivna, in an interview with the publication Telegraf on October 7.
"The second peace summit will not take place in November, but everything for its preparation should already be in place. Currently, thematic conferences on each point of the peace formula are taking place, which will conclude with the adoption of communiqués. The main points of these communiqués will form the basis of the future peace plan for the second summit," Zarivna stated.
Additionally, the Reuters agency, citing the words of Ukraine's ambassador to Turkey, Vasyl Bodnar, reported that Ukraine aims to organize the second Global Peace Summit by the end of 2024. At this conference, as the Ukrainian authorities hope, Russia may also be present. However, direct negotiations with the aggressor are not anticipated at the event.
Recall that the first Global Peace Summit, initiated by Ukraine, took place in Switzerland on June 15-16, with the participation of over 90 countries. Russia was not invited to this event, leading China to decline participation as well. The summit resulted in a communiqué that was signed by almost all participants. The document outlines the provisions of Ukraine's peace formula for establishing a just peace, with the main points being the exchange of prisoners, the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia, and nuclear safety.
