SubscribePeople's Deputy Nina Yuzhanina reported that proposals to reduce these expenses were not supported during the budget committee meeting, despite some public criticism and the country's financial difficulties.
According to Kyiv City Council member Leonid Emets, the issue of salaries is one of the factors that can influence corruption within the justice system. He is convinced that even high incomes do not deter officials from accepting bribes. Emets, comparing the salary of the Chairman of the Supreme Court, which is about 10 thousand dollars, noted: “For a normal person, this amount is sufficient, especially during wartime when there are many other needs. But even under such conditions, the hand reaches for a bribe.”
Yuzhanina emphasized that the salary increase is justified by the need to motivate employees to remain in service, as constant staff turnover negatively impacts the quality of judicial proceedings. However, the question remains whether high salaries can truly change the situation with corruption and if this is indeed the step that society expects.
