The German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized the unacceptability of peace negotiations regarding Ukraine without its representatives, as this country is the one fighting against Russian aggression. Scholz believes that the war can only be concluded with Ukraine's involvement. He highlighted this after the European Political Community summit in Budapest, which took place on November 8.
During the summit, various opinions regarding support for Ukraine were expressed, the Chancellor noted. He also pointed out the particular stance of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is against providing weapons to Kyiv, according to DW.com.
"For many other EU countries, supporting Ukraine remains a priority," added Scholz.
Scholz stressed that Ukraine is a victim of aggression. The Chancellor also reported that the EU has established financial mechanisms to provide Ukraine with loans amounting to 50 billion dollars, which will help Kyiv strengthen its defense regardless of the political situation in individual countries.
"This state has chosen the path of European integration and shares the values of the EU, including democracy and the rule of law," he stated about Ukraine.
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged against making any concessions to Vladimir Putin in the pursuit of peace, labeling them detrimental to Ukraine and dangerous for Europe. He noted that true peace is a reward for the strong, not a result of bargaining or weakening positions. However, Zelensky's speech, which followed Orban and preceded Macron, was not officially broadcast at the summit in Budapest.
It is worth recalling that on November 9, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, arrived in Kyiv with a firm message about the unwavering support for Ukraine from the European Union. Borrell is also convinced that lifting restrictions on the Armed Forces of Ukraine's strikes on Russian territory will aid Ukraine's peace efforts. Additionally, this will help save the lives of Ukrainian citizens. He also noted that the operation in the Kursk region dealt a serious blow to Russian propaganda.
