A former official of the Nikopol District Administration and two accomplices will serve seven years in prison for embezzling 4.3 million UAH in budget funds.

Operatives from the Strategic Investigation Department in the Dnipropetrovsk region, in collaboration with investigators from the regional National Police, have uncovered a scheme involving the illegal appropriation of budget funds.
Экс-чиновник Никопольской РГА и двое его сообщников проведут семь лет в тюрьме за присвоение 4,3 млн грн бюджетных средств.

Five years ago, a contract was signed between the Nikopol District State Administration and a local private entrepreneur for conducting an inventory of agricultural land, assessing its monetary value, and preparing the necessary land management documentation. One of the participants — a land survey engineer — worked for a subcontractor that became the executor of the order.

A former official signed reports of completed work, fully aware that they contained false information and that the promised work was not actually carried out. Despite this, the funds were transferred to the contractors in full.

As a result of these actions, the state budget incurred losses exceeding 4.3 million UAH.

At the beginning of 2021, law enforcement notified the offenders of their suspicions, and after the investigation was completed, an indictment was sent to court.

With the support of the public prosecution by the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, the High Anti-Corruption Court found the former acting head of the Nikopol District State Administration and two of his accomplices guilty under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Part 5 of Article 27, Part 5 of Article 191 (Misappropriation, embezzlement of property, or acquisition of property through abuse of office);
  • Part 1 of Article 209 (Legalization (laundering) of property obtained by criminal means);
  • Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 366 (Service forgery).

According to the indictment, they were sentenced to seven years in prison with confiscation of property.
