The alliance of Trump, Orban, and the Pope could pressure Kyiv into making territorial concessions, according to The Independent.

The unexpected alliance between newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and Pope Francis could jeopardize Western support for Ukraine. This was stated by Hungary's ambassador to the Vatican, Eduard Habsburg-Lothringen. According to him, the Pope plays a crucial role in facilitating an agreement under which Trump is likely to pressure Kyiv into territorial concessions to Russia.

These comments from the diplomat were reported by The Independent. He noted that during Trump's first presidency, political relations between Washington and Budapest “were at their peak,” and they also discussed conflict resolution issues threatening global security.

“After the decision of the American electorate a few days ago, we truly have great hope that Hungarian-American political cooperation will return to its peak: we share similar views on peace, illegal immigration, and family protection. I believe that the chances of peace finally returning to Ukraine after nearly a thousand days of war are better than ever,” – remarked Habsburg-Lothringen.

He mentioned that Pope Francis might join the Trump-Orbán alliance. The Pope recently visited Budapest and, as emphasized by the ambassador, seemingly admitted his long-standing affection for Hungary.

He added that it is quite possible that the Pope will support a peace agreement, which is opposed by all other Western allies in NATO. This is what is anticipated in Budapest.

“In recent years, Hungary has been fighting a lonely battle for an immediate ceasefire and peace in Ukraine. Being a direct neighbor and having a Hungarian minority in Ukraine gives us a very clear vision. The only ally has been His Holiness Pope Francis, who has advocated in the same direction and engaged in peace diplomacy. With the new President Trump, we have an ally who has clearly stated, even in his election speech, that he wants to end wars, which also means the war in Ukraine,” – concluded the diplomat.

Trump Wants to Bring Ukraine and Russia to the Negotiating Table

Donald Trump has already shared his plans for his first week in office as President of the United States. Among the key issues he intends to address on his first day is the goal of bringing Kyiv and Moscow to the negotiating table.

In Russia, they have already stated that the terrorist country will not consider any proposals from Donald Trump regarding Ukraine that include the idea of Russia's defeat. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov mentioned that other ideas might be considered. According to him, the Russian side is "ready to listen" to Trump, but there can be no simple solution to this problem.

Currently, there is a sense of déjà vu: in the West, there is increasing talk that the war is ending and peace negotiations have begun. Officially, the Ukrainian authorities deny this: they reiterate their struggle to restore the borders as of 1991 and complain about disinformation. They also refute the negotiations in Qatar – almost on par with statements made by Volodymyr Zelensky in Budapest when he said that we need support not through negotiations, but through weapons. A similar situation occurred before the onset of the major war, only in reverse. An informant outlined three versions of why this is happening in the material.
