The Kyiv City Council allocated a significant amount – 100 million hryvnias – to ensure the operation of the capital's courts. The decision was made on December 12, with 66 deputies voting in favor.

But why are funds from the city's defense program being directed to the courts? This has raised concerns, given that the country is at war, and every hryvnia is crucial for defense.

The city administration explains that justice is necessary for both defenders and their families. This refers to the ability to go to court to protect rights – from domestic disputes to legal assistance on military matters.

What do the expenses cover?

Part of the funds will be used to support the electronic court system and conduct hearings via videoconferencing. According to representatives of the "UDAR" faction, this will enhance access to justice even in wartime conditions.

UDAR faction member Viktor Domogalsky explained:

"Our defenders and their families need access to justice not only in terms of inclusivity but also through the electronic court system and conducting court sessions via videoconferencing. This will serve to protect the rights and interests of both military personnel and their families."
