The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, calls on Germany to supply Ukraine with Taurus missiles. She emphasized that Germany should provide Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles, particularly in light of the escalating Russian aggression. Metsola also endorsed the idea of using such missiles to target facilities in Russia.
She made this statement in an interview with the German media group Funke, published on Saturday, November 23. Metsola responded affirmatively when asked if countries supplying Ukraine with long-range missiles should allow their use against targets in Russia, and whether Germany should provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with Taurus missiles.
"Yes, this is also the position of the European Parliament. There is broad support for this demand. We will see if the corresponding policy change occurs after the Bundestag elections," she noted.
Taurus is an air-launched cruise missile capable of striking targets at a distance of 500 km. They were developed by Germany and Sweden. They are designed for precision strikes against protected and critical targets, particularly without requiring the launch aircraft to enter the air defense zone. They are manufactured by Taurus Systems GmbH, located in Schrobenhausen, Germany.
The German Parliament is set to discuss the possibility of transferring these missiles to Ukraine again. The initiative will be put forth by the Free Democratic Party. Earlier, Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that supporting Ukraine remains a priority, but emphasized the importance of avoiding escalation of the conflict.
