The European Council stated that the phrase "Ukraine must win this war", which appeared on the website of the EU's highest political body, is incorrect. The current wording now reads: "Russia must not win". In general, the Euro Council believes that the term "victory" is quite complex.

This is mentioned in a Politico article titled "The Verbal War Between Putin and Zelensky." The material was published following press conferences held by the presidents of Ukraine and Russia on December 19.

The article notes that the Euro Council's website previously stated that "Ukraine must win this war." Journalists from the publication reached out to Playbook (a section of Politico), where a Council representative clarified that this was a mistake.

"Any pressure for negotiations will quickly turn into a bad deal for Ukraine," said the EU's chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas.

The article adds that the EU proposed alternative wording. Council President António Costa believes that "international law must prevail, and the invasion must be defeated," explaining the changes in phrasing.

Kallas Addressed EU and US Leaders

Western leaders must stop pressuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to engage in peace talks with Russia. Instead, they should ensure the reality of their commitments to security guarantees for Kyiv, said EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas in an interview with the Financial Times. She called for not putting pressure on Zelensky.

This appeal came ahead of the EU leaders' summit on December 19, where the issue of supporting Ukraine became the primary topic of discussion. According to a draft statement, EU leaders plan to send a "clear signal" to newly elected US President Donald Trump regarding continued support for Ukraine. The European Union insists that no initiative concerning Ukraine can be realized without the participation of Kyiv itself.

Meanwhile, Western media reports when the meeting between Putin and Trump will take place. Zelensky emotionally reacted to the "proposals" from the Russian ruler.
